A Beginners Guide to Eyebrow Microblading
Over the past two years, eyebrow microblading – also called feather stroke brows and eyebrow tattooing – has taken the beauty world by storm. You may know someone who’s had it done, or even have seen eyebrow microblading on your social media – but 2019 is showing no signs of this beauty trend slowing down.
It’s easy to see why so many women (and men!) are intrigued by the idea of natural, beautiful looking eyebrows. They are the perfect solution for anyone who uses makeup or regularly tints their eyebrows.
For those who are considering eyebrow tattooing, here is your beginners’ guide to finding out everything involved in the microblading process.
What is eyebrow microblading?
Eyebrow microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that involves using micro needles (that make up a small blade) to help deposit pigment under your skin. A hand held tool is used to hand draw individual brow hairs onto the skin.
Once the brow hairs have been microbladed, the pigment used is then rubbed on top and allowed to absorb into the skin. This will leave you with gorgeous, natural looking, full eyebrows.
Can anyone have microblading done?
Eyebrow microblading can benefit many candidates – from those who wear makeup daily to those who prefer a more natural look. It can specially benefit those who:
- Want a better, more defined brow shape
- Suffer from alopecia
- Have over-plucked their eyebrows in the past
- Are busy women on the go
- Have sparse, thin eyebrows
- Are active and sweat their makeup off easily
There is no limitations with eyebrow microblading when it comes to skin and hair colour. Eyebrow tattooists will have dozens of colour options available, and will ensure the perfect match to both your hair and skin tone.
How long does microblading last?
How long the tattoo will last will vary on a number of factors, including how well your skin holds the colour and how well you look after them. Those with light or fair coloured hair may find they need a touch up sooner than those who have dark hair.
However, if you look after your newly tattooed eyebrows well, you can expect them to last anywhere from 12 to 18 months, sometimes longer.
How are the brows drawn on before being tattooed?
Drawing on the brows generally takes the majority of the session. Your microblading technician will take time to consider your eye placement, bone structure and face shape, to ensure they look completely natural and balanced.
NO stencils should be used by the tattooist during this process; each set of brows should be completely individual and customised to each person. Otherwise, you could end up with eyebrows that look like they belong on someone else’s face!
Is the process painful?
This is something we get asked quite a lot… and the answer is, it’s more uncomfortable than painful. It will depend on your pain tolerance, however most clients refer to it as “a cat lightly scratching the skin”.
However, anesthetic will be applied before the tattooing begins to ensure any pain is kept to a minimum.
How much does microblading cost?
The cost will vary between salon to salon, ranging anywhere from $300 to $800. However; it’s vital not to go for the cheapest option available! The cheaper the service is, the less time they have allocated for the service – and any sort of tattooing should not be rushed!
Be sure to do your research beforehand, and look for eyebrow microblading certifications as well as other client reviews to ensure you’re working with a trained professional.
