What Microneedling Can Do For Your Skin

Microneedling is the newest trend in beauty and skincare – it’s a process that uses needles to puncture hundreds of tiny holes into the skin. While the idea may sound quite daunting, microneedling can be used to effectively treat a number of skin issues.

Let’s take a deeper look into microneedling and see exactly what it involves and how you can benefit from treatment.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling – also referred to sometimes as a micropen, dermapen or collagen induction therapy – involves using a tool with disposable needle tips that create small micro punctures in the skin.

These tiny micro punctures trigger the skin to create new, healthy, collagen-rich tissue for smoother and plumper skin on your face.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

There are a number of benefits that come with microneedling, whether you’re dealing with specific skin issues or you’re wanting to prevent the signs of aging. Some of the skin problems that microneedling can help treat/improve are:

  • Large pores
  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Dull skin
  • Age spots

Although microneedling is primarily used on the face, it has been used on body parts to treat scarring and stretch marks.

What is the downtime involved with microneedling?

As microneedling isn’t an invasive procedure, the recovery time involved is minimal. You may notice some slight skin irritation and redness during the first few days following the procedure – however you can go back to school/work as per normal if you feel comfortable to do so.

What’s the difference between microneedling and at-home rollers?

Simply put – you cannot achieve the same results at home using a roller you bought online! In fact, using DIY at home rollers can be more damaging to your skin than anything.

The punctures made during a professional microneedling session are designed to induce skin rejuvenation. Rollers used at home can actually cause superficial tears in the skin – and without proper sterilization, they can harbor harmful bacteria causing breakouts and other skin issues.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

Generally, you’ll see results after your first microneedling session. However, a series of three treatments spread four weeks apart is when you’ll notice significant changes in your skin (although, acne scarring will require more sessions).

For optimum results, we recommend up to 3x resurfacing peels before you begin your microneedling sessions. You should start your microneedling treatments 2 weeks following your last resurfacing peel – this allows for better results and deeper penetration of products into the skin.

How much does microneedling cost?

The total cost of your microneedling sessions will depend on how many treatments are needed – and this varies from person to person.

We recommend having a consultation with our beauty therapy expert Hermione – here, you can discuss your skin concerns and she can provide her recommendations and cost of overall treatments.
